Chinese network signs deals to exchange programs with Western broadcasters

Article Abstract:

China Central Television Network (CCTV) has signed separate programming exchange agreements with Encore Media Corp. (Encore) and Australia's Packer broadcast group. Encore also agreed to provide CCTV with some 52 TV movies annually in return for the right to sell advertising on the network. CCTV director for international relations Wei Ping stated that his network intends to form similar deals with other foreign TV and cable companies.

Broadcasters try to toe the line in local shows

Article Abstract:

Broadcasters operating in Asia are placing greater emphasis on local content in their programming mix. However, companies such as MTV and NBC are realizing that local programs are still subject to the same restraints as their imported counterparts. The wide diversity of Asian cultures means that people in the region have different views on controversial issues such as politics, AIDS or race relations.

Singapore firm, Time Warner set pact

Article Abstract:

Time Warner and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. have signed an agreement for a joint trial of the island's first video-on-demand service. In the 18-month trial, Time Warner will provide the expertise it has acquired in similar interactive TV trials in the US. The two companies will also consider the feasibility of setting up a video-on-demand joint venture in Singapore.
