Cisco, Pirelli may form joint venture; firms are said to be mulling fiber-optic deal

Article Abstract:

The American computer equipment manufacturer, Cisco Systems Inc. and Pirelli S.p.A. of Italy are in talks about a joint venture, although Cisco could also acquire parts of Pirelli's fiber-optic business. This is the most recent move in Cisco's aggressive turn into the fiber-optics industry and follows the recent purchases of startups Cerent Corp. and Monterey Networks Inc.

Kodak plans sale of health unit; net loss widens

Article Abstract:

Eastman Kodak Co. of the United States posted a first quarter net loss of $298 million from $146 million last year. Revenue losses are due to restructuring, decreased sales and the increasing cost of silver. The photographic industry concern is considering divesting its health-care unit.
