City sees a frenzy on fees

There were 1,801 recorded mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals in the UK in 1997, valued at 64.1 billion pounds sterling. City of London firms earned fees of 1.3 billion pounds sterling in 1997, compared with 1.1 billion pounds sterling in 1996. UniChem paid fees of 19 million pounds sterling on its acquisition of Alliance Sante Luxembourg which cost 278 million pounds sterling. Advisors working on behalf of the 9.8 billion pounds sterling Guinness and Grant Metropolitan merger made 150 million pounds sterling in fees.

Auto Windscreens aiming to be top of the glass

The 97.8 million pounds sterling management buyout of UK-based Auto Windscreens was lead by HSBC Private Equity in partnership with Fuji Bank. Over 1,500 employees work for Auto Windscreens, operating out of 150 sites. The main focus of the company is windscreen replacement and repair for all car windows. The company has remained buoyant mainly due to the static nature of car ownership in the UK.
