Cleveland Amory

Article Abstract:

Cleveland Amory was an animal welfare campaigner who presided over a charity that ran Black Beauty Ranch, a Texan animal sanctuary. The field of animal welfare is beset by divisions, with some purists even opposed to keeping pets. Amory started his work after being shocked by a Mexican bullfight, and he set up Fund for Animals in 1967. The group has been involved in a number of actions such as painting seals so that they should not be slaughtered for the fur trade.
