Comanche goal-posts move again

Article Abstract:

The Pentagon is planning to implement a fourth round of revisions for the US Army's Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche armed reconnaissance helicopter program. The proposed restructuring will replace the six 'early operational capability' (EOC) aircraft to be ordered with three preproduction helicopters, which are to undergo a string of field tests. The plan also aims to advance some mission equipment package capabilities by two or three years, as well as the advancement for installation of the Longbow fire control radar by five years. The new revisions will delay trials for the pre-preproduction models by FY2003, compared to the previous EOC aircraft assessment schedule of FY 2001.

A more civil approach

Article Abstract:

The US Armed Forces will be able to derive a large number of innovative methodologies for loadlifting by taking advantage of the ongoing developments in the commercial helicopter loadlifting sector. In the commercial lifting business, where aircraft is subjective to continuous use, civilian operators have the advantage of relatively greater knowledge in repetitive-lift operations compared to their military counterparts.
