Cops and robbers in Argentina

Article Abstract:

Crime is a major concern in Argentina and politicians are emphasizing tougher measures to combat the problem, though they lack a long term solution. There are insufficient statistics on crime, which the government denies has increased. Under a third of crimes are reported, and only some 1% of reported crimes are solved. There have been allegations of police corruption, and there have been attempts to reform the police force. These allegations mean that granting greater power to the police may not solve the problem of crime.
