Coupon site pinpoints cell phone users

Vancouver-based e-coupon site Savingumoney.com will start using location- positioning technology for delivering coupons at the point-of-purchase. Savingumoney allows consumers to print coupons from its Web site, from lunch meals to spa services. The service would be tested in Calgary in the middle of Jul 2000, where consumers can register online when choosing their coupon categories. They will then be 'beeped' on their phones when they are near participating stores.

Radio spots at a click of the keypad

Radio spot distribution in Canada is expected to become easier with the launching of online delivery systems SpotTaxi.com and Slingspot.com. Both services deliver radio commercials through the Internet, which ad agencies, radio stations and production companies can log onto using passwords. Agencies can identify where they want the spots sent and specify traffic instructions for each station. Radio stations can then download the ads.

Travelocity.com, the largest online travel planning site in the world, intends to issue 15,000 apologies in connection with a technical glitch that occurred on Jan 22, 2001. The incident resulted in the listing of personal information from entrants to a sweeptakes contest sponsored by the Fort Worth, TX-based company on a site link. The listings include contestant names as well as mailing addresses and phone numbers.
