Article Abstract:

UK companies became increasingly active in acquisitions of firms in mainland Europe in 1994, when 231 firms were acquired for 6.3 billion pounds sterling total value. French companies attracted most interest, followed by Spain, with 54 firms acquired for 3.3 billion pounds, followed by Spain with 22 firms acquired for 1.1 billion pounds. There were also 50 German firms acquired by UK firms, but the total value amounted to only 349 million pounds.

Leeds has developed into a strong regional financial services centre, and it is now able to handle merger and acquisition deals of almost any scale. Various groups within the financial services industry work closely together, and every effort is made to ensure that deals remain within the city. Business was slow at the beginning of 1995, but has now started to take off again.

The role of the strategy consultant is discussed with emphasis on changes that have occurred to the expectations of their customers relating to their responsibilities. In 2001 strategy consultants are expected to provide plans and deliver on their promises.
