Airbus to Mount Challenge to Boieng With New Plane

Article Abstract:

Airbus Industrie will develop the new 100-seat A-318 jetliner. The consortium said it has 110 firm orders from six buyers. The orders could exceed $4 billion. Orders for Boeing's new 100-seat 717 have been slow. In the last three years, there have been 115 orders for the 717. Boeing expects demand to rise once the plane is in service.

DASA, Aerospatiale may deal, but BAe still holds the cards

The creation of European Aeronautic Defense and Space Co by a merger of DaimlerChrysler AG and Aerospatiale Matra SA will lead to good things for competitor British Aerospace PLC. British Aerospace is expect to merge with a US company soon, and has increased leverage due to consolidation in the defense industry in Europe.
