Outgrowing its home, DBS will build a second hub

The Development Bank of Singapore Ltd. is acquiring Hong Kong bank Dao Heng Bank Ltd. for $5.7 billion helping the company to expand its markets outside of Singapore. Analysts and investors have mixed feelings about the purchase, citing a decline in the stock price and the financial rivalry between Singapore and Hong Kong.

Singapore banks regroup

The five domestic banks in Singapore may be merging into three large banks, keeping with government goals of increased banking consolidation. Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. has acquired Keppel Capital Holdings Ltd., and United Overseas Bank Ltd. is gaining a controlling interest in Overseas Union Bank Ltd.
