DENMARK: MINISTER CRITICIZES ARLA FOODS

Article Abstract:

Ritt Bjerregaard, the Danish food minister, levels criticism of Arla Foods, the Danish-Swedish dairy group, for not making use of the extremely large potential on the US market for organic foods and making efforts to sell its organic products there. Bjerregaard says there is a surplus of organic milk in Denmark. The minister is also critical as Arla Foods is not planning to take part in the Fancy Food fair to be arranged in New York in July. Arla Foods information manager Peter Kjeldstrup confirms the company has received a letter from the minister and says it is constantly monitoring the prospects of selling organic products.

Denmark:Arla Foods to give up organic market in Germany

Article Abstract:

Arla Foods, the Swedish-Danish dairy giant, has decided to withdraw practically its entire range of organic dairy products from the German market. The company initiated its organic marketing drive in Germany a year ago but poor sales now force it to give up the efforts. Danish Food Minister Ritt Bjerregaard says patience is required when marketing organic foods and urges Arla Foods to persevere. Arla Foods European division's MD Torben Olsen says the company has decided to give up the German market and will not attempt to be a pioneer in this field.

DENMARK:DANISCO&ARLA COOPERATION OVER A SUGAR PRODUCT?

Article Abstract:

Arla Foods's new sugar product tagatose would fit very well in Danisco Ingredients' product range, according to the paper. Danisco CEO Alf Duch Pedersen, however, declines to comment the rumours regarding tagatose but says the company has close co-operation with Arla Foods in several areas. Sydband stock market analyst Stig Nyman expects that the companies will enter into co-operation regarding tagatose provided that tagatose is not a direct rival to Danisco's sugar division. Experts regard tagatose as a complementary product to sugar.
