DENMARK:ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION WILL PROVE COSTLY

Article Abstract:

Denmark is planning to ban certain industrial greenhouse gases that are still allowed in other countries, writes the Association of Danish Industries in its weekly magazine Industrien. The association says this will result in major losses for companies that will have to close down operations or relocate operations abroad. Denmark would be the only country in the world to take this move, which according to the head of the Association is a totally absurd idea.

Dansk Industri (DI), the Confederation of Danish Industries, wants to start a dialogue with the Danish environment minister, Svend Auken, to bring about regulations that make it more attractive for Danish companies to invest money in projects that help bring down CO2 emission levels. DENMARK: 3% DROP IN INDUSTRIAL CO2 EMISSIONS

Article Abstract:

According to Danmarks Statistik, there was a 3% drop in industrial CO2 emissions in the 1997-1999 period despite the fact that the use of energy by the industry has risen by 18% since 1990. This is the first time since 1990 that CO2 emissions have recorded a decline, which is largely ascribed to coal, coke and oil products being partly replaced by natural gas.
