DENMARK:JAPAN A MAJOR EXPORT MARKET FOR DANISH PORK
Article Abstract:
Japan is the biggest export market for Danish pork and generated almost DKr6bn (US$731mn) in 2000. This is almost half of the combined Danish exports to Japan. Sales to the Japanese market generate considerably more to Danish slaughter-houses than sales to the German and UK markets as Japan buys processed meat products and expensive parts of the pig to a greater extent. This information comes from the Danish trade organization for slaughter-houses, Danske Slagterier.

As a result of an increased focus on the Far East, Danish pork exporters have entered the markets of Australia and Singapore. Countries like China, Taiwan and the Philippines will also be targeted. Exports to Taiwan are scheduled to start as soon as the Taiwanese authorities. Jens Haven Christiansen of Danish Crown believes there is a market for 20,000 tons of pork in Taiwan.

DENMARK: DANISH PORK EXPORTS TO THE UK GROW

Danish pork exports to the British market are expected to grow due to the decline in British production caused by the foot-and-mouth disease. Danish Crown expects a sales growth of 10% to around DKr5bn (US$609mn). Japan still continues to be the No.1 export market for Danish pork producers followed by the UK.
