DNH proposes listing facades and removing Crown immunity

Article Abstract:

The 'Protecting our Heritage' document issued recently by the UK department of national heritage contains a number of new recommendations for dealing with the listing of significant buildings. These include the possibility of listing only the facade of buildings, thus allowing large-scale changes to be made inside. There is also a proposal for an interim measure which would be applied by law to buildings which are in the consultation period between being recommended by English Heritage and their final listing.

Crystal Palace listing could scupper Bromley plans

Article Abstract:

The Crystal Palace National Sports centre is to be replaced by a regional centre. The owner of the building, the Sports Council, is examining about 20 bids. However the centre was included in a group of proposed listings by English Heritage in 1996, and the ministers at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport are considering whether to list the building which was built in 1960-64.
