Dangerous delusions over Taiwan

Article Abstract:

You Si-Kun's proposal to change the official name of Taiwan from 'Republic of China' to 'Taiwan' and the efforts of the Democratic Progressive Party to fuel national identity are discussed. Taiwan's United Nations bid referendum and the subsequent influence of China and the United States are also presented.

The danger from bird flu in Asia is enormous. The International agencies are finding it difficult to convince donors to fund highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) prevention. A recent survey has revealed that the potential impact of avian flu on Asian economies could be around $50 to $60 billion.
