Deals with a history

Article Abstract:

There has been rapid expansion recently at long-established publishing firms Taylor & Francis and Lloyd's of London Press (LLP). Both floated for around $231 million on the London Stock Exchange in spring 1998, and have subsequently made acquisitions. LLP's merger with IBC, one of the leading organizers of business conferences, will allow both companies to benefit from cross-selling opportunities. Taylor & Francis purchased publishing concern Routledge for $148.7 million in Nov 1998, thus more than doubling in size.

The news statesmen

Article Abstract:

Irish newspaper group Independent Newspapers PLC was established in 1905 by a family of Dublin business people and traders. The company's growth remained static until the mid-1960s when three Irish provincial newspapers were acquired. Following its acquisition by Tony O'Reilly in 1972, the company focused on overseas growth, including France, South Africa and the UK, acquiring newspapers and other media, such as outdoor advertising.
