Article Abstract:

The supreme court of Philippines has nullified a twenty-five year airport contract that was awarded to Philippine International Airport Terminal Co., (Piatco) consortium to build and manage the new Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal for violating the PhilippinesE law under which a foreign partner is not allowed to run that airport terminal.The probable consequences of the Supreme Court ruling on PhilippinesE economy have been discussed.

A series of measures to support sick state companies and subsidies in sectors like electricity has wreaked serious damage on Philippine economy. Unless the government take a major initiative to reduce the foreign debt and improve the rate of tax collection, the country is heading for a major crisis.

The budget deficit must be fixed

Article Abstract:

Although the GDP of the Philippines showed solid growth in 2002, the country also had a budget deficit of 213 billion pesos ($3.97 billion). Reform is needed, especially in the tax-collection system.
