Delivery companies adapt to airport crisis

Article Abstract:

Express delivery firms doing business in Hong Kong have come up with ways to cope with the cargo handling problems which arose from a systems crash in the newly opened Chek Lap Kok airport. Cargo handlers, such as DHL Worldwide Express, FDX Corp, and United Parcel Service of America, were forced to divert their cargoes away from the troubled facilities of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd and into their own terminals. Federal Express utilized its own facilities at the Asia Air Freight terminal of the airport while the other handlers used an Express Cargo Terminal facility.

Sounds of silence in Macau: quiet airport stirs courting of more carriers

Article Abstract:

Officials of Macau International Airport are planning to employ a new airport ferry to Hong Kong in an attempt to increase the number of its passengers. The airport, which is slated to commemorate its second year business anniversary in Nov 1997, boarded less than 1.4 million passengers in 1996, one third of which were bound to other destinations. Officials are further eyeing to entice passengers by levying transportation rates 50% lesser than what is offered in Chek Lap Kok Airport.
