Daimaru's restructuring hints at good things in store; retail chain may buck trend in Japan, although some contrarians say firm has 'blurry focus.'

Article Abstract:

Japanese department-store chain Daimaru is inspiring confidence in some stock analysts even though the rest of the department store sector has long fallen out of favor among investors. Those who are optimistic about the company's economic outlook cite its sound restructuring measures, which include a workforce reduction. However, other stock analysts are still reluctant to rate Daimaru as a 'buy' because of its 'blurry focus' and its failure to implement bolder measures to increase its stores' appeal.
