Denmark: Food exports set to reach record high levels

Article Abstract:

The Danish food exports are set to reach a record high level of more than DKr58bn (US$6.9bn) in 2001 following ax explosive growth in the Danish food exports in the past five years. The increase on 2000 is more than DKr3bn. According to Henning Otte Hansen of the Agricultural Council of Denmark, Danish food exports reported a DKr3.9bn growth in the first seven months of this year and this is largely ascribed to pork exports. Danske Slagterier's marketing analyst Karsten Flemin says the Danish pork exports this year are estimated at more than DKr28bn vs. DKr24.5bn last year.

US: CALL FOR LIFTING BAN ON DANISH PORK IMPORTS

Article Abstract:

The National Restaurant Association (NRA), the trade organisation for restaurant-keepers in the US, is putting pressure on the US department of agriculture to lift the ban on Danish pork imports to the US that was imposed in the wake of the foot-and-mouth outbreak in the UK. According to NRA, the import ban should only involve those countries where cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been discovered. Denmark is the leading exporter of pork to the US.
