Designs on Hongkong Land

Hongkong Land Holdings's stock is being watched by market analysts following tycoon Li Ka-shing's acquisition of a stake estimated at more than 3% in the company. Li's purchase, which has caused Hongkong Land's share price to rise sharply, has also generated speculation regarding Li's possible takeover of the company. Meanwhile, analysts expect Hongkong Land's share price to remain volatile due to speculation stemming from Li's purchase.

Analysts are warning investors against buying into Hong Kong's Cheung Kong Holdings Ltd. (Cheung Kong). They state that the hype regarding Cheung Kong is mainly due to speculation as the colony's residential property sector finally enjoys an upturn. Although Cheung Kong shares have gone up substantially over the past few days, the fact remains that little is known about the company's financial performance.
