More capacity than required

Article Abstract:

Representatives of the existing six international airports in the United Arab Emirates (UAR) are in consensus that the UAR has too many major airports in close proximity but have not been able to come up with viable solutions to the problem. They generally agree that the problem is an issue of prestige and that it is too late to expect developments to be reversed. However, the Dubai government appears to be proceeding with plans to invest between US$500 million to US$600 million after 2003 to build a third terminal in Dubai International Airport.

Dubai aims for the top 20

Article Abstract:

Dubai International airport, which welcomed 9.7 million passengers in 1998, aims to be included among the top 20 airports across the globe. Ranked by the ACI in its recent review as the world's sixth fastest growing airport, Dubai International could achieve its goal once it sustains its present growth rate of 10% to 13%. The airport has attracted approximately 90 international carriers due to its liberal 'Open Skies' policy.
