Deutsche Bank remains a retail laggard: corporate, investment arms generate bulk of earnings; talks held with Citigroup

Sixty-seven per cent of the pre-tax profits of Deutsche bank, in 2003, was from the corporate and investment banking businesses, whereas the highly profitable retail segment lagged behind, contributing only thirteen per cent. The idea of a merger with the Citigroup, to address the retail gap, is still at its nascent stage.
