Deutsche Post leads to German sales

Last month's IPO announcement of Germany's post office Deutsche Post (to take place in the fall) rose profits 50% to DM1.1bn. On its heels is next year's planned flotation of the post office's 30% stake in its banking subsidiary Postbank. The privatization of Postbank is to occur in 2001 and is expected to raise around DM2.5bn. Other upcoming German privatisations include water utility Berliner Wasserbetriebe, the Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI) airport, and energy utility MMV Energie,

Water may be a sale too far for Chile

Article Abstract:

The Chilean coalition government is divided over the privatisation of water treatment companies. The sale of the 13 companies has now been postponed until early in 1996. The waste management industry had net income after accountancy losses of $78 million and operating profit of $105 million in 1994. The government aims to treat about 90% of wastewater by the end of the 1990s.

Bahrain water project
