Deutsche Telekom bid for Voicestream gets boost from U.S.; Unions and trade groups oppose restrictions

Article Abstract:

The Communication Workers of America and The AFL-CIO have joined with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to support the merger of Deutsche Telekom and VoiceStream Wireless. They are urging that the Federal Trade Commission waive the U.S. law forbidding companies with more than 25% ownership by a foreign government from acquiring a communication license. The law would effectively block the $50 billion merger.
