Disney to buy U.K. Sports Channel in bid to expand reach of ESPN

Article Abstract:

Walt Disney Co. of the United States has agreed to purchase a British sports network cable television broadcasting channel. NASN Ltd. has licensing rights to the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and the National Football League. The deal to purchase NASN Ltd. of the United Kingdom is for approximately 80 million Euros ($107 million) including taking on debt.

Vivendi to buy pay-TV operator TPS

Article Abstract:

Vivendi Universal S.A. of France has agreed to purchase pay-television unit TPS. The media giant will make an initial payment of 18 percent or 150 million Euros ($180 million) awaiting regulatory approval, eventually to own 85 percent of a merger between Canal Plus and TPS. Vivendi Universal S.A. is consolidating amidst increasing competition.
