Dogfight in China's airspace: tie-up spat shows unusual discord by state carriers

Article Abstract:

China National Aviation Holding Co. has announced plans to vote against an agreement by China Eastern Airlines Corp. to sell a 24% stake to air carrier Singapore Airlines Ltd. and state-owned investment firm Temasek Holdings Private Ltd. The deal is valued at $923.8 mil. China National is a minority stakeholder in China Eastern. The move may signal that there are opposing views within China's government regarding how the nation's aviation business should be managed.

Singapore Air's deal to buy piece of China Eastern stokes competition

China Eastern Airlines Corporation Ltd. has agreed to sell Singapore Airlines Ltd. a stake, giving Singapore Airlines entry into China's domestic routes and access to its outbound international passengers. Although specifics have not yet been finalized, Chinese law caps foreign-ownership stakes at 25%.
