PAWS-2 tracks threat with infrared

Article Abstract:

Israel's new F-16I fighter aircraft would be equipped with the world's first operational infrared sensor-based missile warning system made by Elisra Electronic Systems. The PAWS-2 warning system is part of Elisra's Advanced Self-Protection Suite, which passively detects incoming missile threats. It uses the same avionics box as the PAWS-1, which is installed in the Apache helicopter, but with six sensors. Each has an FOV of 102 x 102 degrees, providing full spherical coverage.

... new NATO allies offered 'free' F-16s

Article Abstract:

The Belgian Air Force (BAF) is offering low-cost leases on up to 18 Lockheed Martin F-16 A/B fighter aircraft to the new NATO allies in Central Europe. The F-16s would allow these countries to field a squadron of 12 NATO-compatible frontline jets at short notice and without incurring huge initial costs. The BAF would not only provide the aircraft but would also guarantee intermediary and depot-level support, such that a realstic number of flying hours per year can be achieved.

Dutch study future fighters as JSF partners emerge

Article Abstract:

Royal Netherlands Air Force and Defense Ministry officials are supportive of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program over other replacement programs to phase-out upgraded F-16AM/BMs. The NLG10 billion ($5 billion) program is projected for 2010-2025. Preference for the JSF was conditioned by Dutch government's and industry's previous experience with the company's R and D program.
