EMC quietly reduces staff

In one of the company's largest across-the-board reductions in years, EMC Corp. has downsized several hundred employees from its labor force. The layoffs amount to less than 3% of EMC's 24,000 staff.

IBM plans layoffs of around 1,000 in round of cuts

International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) is planning to layoff about 1,000 employees in the 2001 summer period. The Alliance at IBM union is calling for less secrecy in the company's layoff plans.

Textron expects weak results
