EU car-price gap shrank in 1998, Commission says

Article Abstract:

The European Commission stated that the gap in 1998 car prices among countries in the European Union has diminished since the year before, mostly due to currency fluctuations. In November, the Volkswaen AG Polo sold for 32% less than in Britain, compared to 1997, when it sold for 36.7% less. The Commission said that more automobile makers than in the past have kept price gaps below 20%. The U.K. is still the most expensive country for car pricing.

German auto output may top 400,000 vehicles

Article Abstract:

The VDA, Germany's auto manufacturers' association, stated that the country's average monthly production of passenger automobiles will reach 400,000 units in the period between August 1999 and December 1999. However, this will fall behind August-December 1998 levels of 460,000 units per month. In 1997, August-December levels reached 370,000 units.

EU Commission to back investment in VW plant

Article Abstract:

A government subsidy for Volkswagen AG's planned car plant in Dresden, Germany is expected to be approved by the European Commission (EC). The car maker is expected to win approval before August 2001.
