EU countries can no longer ban foreign broadcasts

Article Abstract:

The European Union's European Court of Justice has ruled that governments of member states can no longer ban the broadcasting of foreign channels. The court ruled that such authority should be placed with the broadcaster's originating country. Germany, the UK and Belgium have blocked imported channels and allowed local broadcasters to use the cable space.

Industry welcomes EC's Green Paper on advertising

A Green Paper published by the European Commission concludes that the differing regulations in member nations are hampering progression towards a unified commercial communications market in Europe. The advertising industry welcomes the report, which recommends the establishment of a committee whose remit is to consider complaints against national rules.

EC tones down Parliament's ad restrictions on new media

Article Abstract:

The demands by the European Parliament to increase restrictions on commercial television have been revised by the European Commission (EC). Among other measures, the EC's TV Without Frontiers directive omits Parliament's demand to reduce permissible advertising airtime and its recommendation to withdraw advertising from teleshopping channels.
