EU panel recommends approval of Pfizer's Viagra

Article Abstract:

Pfizer Inc. has received the recommendation for the approval of its impotence drug Viagra from a committee of scientific experts with the European Union. European Commission reported that it was given the recommendation and is abticipated to rule on the new medicine on September 15, 1998. The commission also agreed for a change in the portion of the drug's label, designed to emphasize the parts concerning undesirable effects. Viagra will be approved for sale in all member states of the union if the drug gets EU-wide approval from the commission, as well as supercedes decisions taken by individual member sates.

'Safe' smoke? Well...; Cigarette maker's claims ignite a new debate

Article Abstract:

U.S.-based Vector Tobacco is about to launch Omni, the new cigarette that claims to be less harmful to smoke, contains less toxins that cause cancer. The firm, though, has no scientific evidence to back up its claims. Antitobacco activists are concerned that smokers will think Omni is safe to smoke, and that nonsmokers will start smoking.

EU backs tighter control on cigarette labeling

Article Abstract:

The European Union has backed a tighter directive on cigarette manufacturing. The directive will increase the size of health warnings on cigarette packets, ban the use of terms like "mild" or "light," and impose stricter limits on tar and nicotine content.
