Kosdaq begins to look good

Article Abstract:

Some analysts and fund managers think it is a good time to buy stock on the Kosdaq market of South Korea because it has fallen 71% since it's all time high in early 2000, falling 15% in the second week of October. Recommendations are companies that make actual durable goods, as opposed to Internet stocks. Humax Co., maker of digital set-top boxes, and Ceratech Corp., maker of electronic components for digital set-top boxes, are both considered strong potential earners.

Eager investors still can join South Korea's stock rally; pay attention to liquid shares, especially those of blue-chip companies, analysts say

Article Abstract:

Analysts believe that Seoul, Korea's stock market rally will continue until the end of 1999. The Korea Composite Index reached its highest level since Aug 27, 1997, closing at 770.43. Closing at 750.99 on Apr 30, 1999, the index is up by 51% from a year's low of 498.42 on Feb 24, 1999. Analysts declare that liquid stocks would benefit the most from the market rally, especially those of healthy blue-chip enterprises. On the other hand, skeptics believe that the market will not go much higher if firms will not improve their performance and if export outlook does not get any better.

Korean mutual funds shine

Article Abstract:

The financial troubles plaguing South Korea's Daewoo Group have made investors flee the country's investment trusts which have holdings in the troubled firm. This turn of events has benefitted the closed-end mutual fund industry. The mutual fund industry has capitalized on the misfortunes of its counterparts by advertising the absence of Daewoo bonds in their portfolio. However, some analysts have noted that a falter in share prices also affects the performance of mutual funds as well. In addition, a drawback of mutual funds is their difficulty in finding buyers.
