Early tests for sound effects (acoustic modelling)
Article Abstract:
Acoustics can be tested at an early stage in the design of auditoria. The usual method is by means of scale models. Here the designer must ensure the model is made from materials with the correct absorbency. Computers can be used to assist the analysis of the model. In recent years, computer modelling techniques have improved and now enable acousticians to test designs more quickly but they still lack validation. The best approach is to use both methods.

Boardrooms can cause problems when being designed as they are often regularly used as presentation and entertainment areas. Rear projection rooms are becoming increasingly popular or cathode-ray projectors suspended from the ceiling if there is a lack of space. To utilise space and improve the acoustics in rooms that are used for a number of purposes there are various technical products available.

Article Abstract:
The main issues for designing of better acoustics in schools are detailed. The Building Bulletin, BB93 guidelines, issued may evoke complains from designers and contractors but it certainly increases the standards of learning and working environments.
