Economic rebound may be distant for Asia

Article Abstract:

World Bank officials predict that the inflow of foreign capital to Asia will remain minimal in 1999 despite regional stock markets' rebound. The Asian financial crisis of 1997, combined with the world' economic turmoil, has made foreign direct investments to the Asian region to decline from 1997 to 1998. It is believed that the negative effects of the economic crisis will persist in 1999. Hence, recovery for the economies of Asian countries that include the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand remains a distant possibility.
