Egypt boosts private finance projects

Article Abstract:

Egypt is launching a series of private infrastructure projects, with priority to the power sector, roads and transport. A new thermal power station is to be built on a build-own-operate-transfer basis at Sidi Krier, and a private airport is to be built at Mersa Alam on the Red Sea Coast. The Ministry of Electricity has acknowledged the major rise in electricity demand, and the Egyptian Electricity Authority is to start purchasing power supplies direct from private providers to be sold on to state-owned distribution companies.

Oman to be open to private projects

Article Abstract:

The issue of around 41% of shares in United Power Group of Oman, a company set up to build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) a power station in Oman, has been oversubscribed. It is thought that the positve response will speed up proposals to use the private sector for infrastructure projects such as desalination plants at Barqa and Ashkara, a second dual carriageway in Muscat and waste water projects.
