Pacific funds' '94 performance reflected downward trend in most Asian markets

Article Abstract:

Equity mutual funds in the Pacific region performed poorly in 1994 as securities markets in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand continued their downward trends. For the 4th qtr. of 1994, only one of the funds surveyed managed to post positive returns. For the whole year, regional funds recorded an average loss of 12.45%, compared to a gain of 63. 81% posted in 1993. Analysts attributed the decline to interest rate hikes, particularly in the US. They predicted, however, that share prices are poised for a recovery.

Novelties for Asian visitors: show the best of the U.S. to your guests

Article Abstract:

Many Asians are being attracted to visit the US mainly because of the lower costs of living than in their respective countries. However, most Asian business visitors have already seen most of the popular attractions in the US, presenting a major challenge to American hosts. Some of the more interest suggestions for well-travelled Asians include golf and automobile touring. American hosts can also suggest visits to Washington, DC, or outdoor recreational activities in the northern states.

Sunseeds makes new push to reach Asian farmers

Article Abstract:

Sunseeds regional manager for Asia Cheng-Hong Teo believes that his company's loss of market share is largely due to its lack of a full-scale breeding facility in Asia. Teo is optimistic that Asian consumers will eventually realize that the higher price of Sunseeds' hybrid products is well worth it in view of their superior resistance to disease and higher yields.
