Electric refurbishment

Article Abstract:

Restoration of the Gloucester Road underground station entry building in London, UK, was hampered by the severe rusting of the steel frame which was originally intended to support office accommodation. The station was built in 1906 and the damage resulted when the extra offices were not built. The problem of rust was overcome by the use of cathodic protection, which makes steel anti-corrosive through the introduction of a direct electric current. The facade of the building was also refurbished, at a cost of 250,000 pounds sterling.
