Article Abstract:

Car maker Honda of America is looking to the 1994 model of its most popular car, the Accord, to boost flagging sales and to wipe away the gloomy effect of several recent developments. These developments include Ford's success in getting its Taurus model to replace the Accord as the best-selling car in the US in 1992. Additional problems were a Customs Service decision that prevents Honda from shipping Canadian-built Civics to the US duty-free, accusations of bribery against American Honda Motor and the likelihood that Chrysler will oust Honda as the third largest US auto maker in 1993.

Down to a trickle: US Congress poised to cut aid to the Philippines

Article Abstract:

The US Congress has rejected the Clinton administration request to extend financial support to the Philippines, marking the first time since the overthrow of the Marcos regime that the US has declined to aid the country. A law passed in the 1993 session of Congress also stops aid to the Philippines from being used to convert ex-US military bases into economic zones. Congress will likely find some money to aid the Philippines, but it is apparent that relations between the two countries have soured.

Out of pocket

Article Abstract:

The US plans to reduce the amount of economic and military assistance to the Philippine government for FY 1993. The continuing isolationist tendencies of the US Congress, growing competition from other countries requesting US aid, and the Philippine Senate's rejection of a treaty extending the presence of US military bases in the Philippines are among the perceived reasons for the US decision.
