Endesa makes waves in the water industry

Article Abstract:

Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (Endesa) is already Spain's leading producer and distributor of electricity, and holds fifth place in the European Union in terms of output. It has been diversifying over recent years, and in Jan 1994 took an 11.8% stake in water supplier Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar). This move reflects the large-scale changes which are taking place in the country's water treatment and distribution sector. Large-scale investment is being made under the National Water Purification Plan, and many concessions previously controlled by municipal governments are being privatised.
