Endesa to buy shares of eight more units as it prepares for industry competition

Article Abstract:

Endesa SA, which is the biggest electric utility in Spain, announced on Nov. 5, 1998, that the company will pay Ptas350 billion, or $2.47 billion, to buy all the shares that Endesa does not hold in eight of its regional units. The move is part of the company's plans to prepare the group for the full liberalization of the electricity industry in Europe. Endesa emphasized that it is seeking to establish an integrated industrial group and a streamlined management organization by consolidating all of its units.
