Evaluation and refinement of aspiration-based methods in MCDM

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to evaluate the performance of aspiration-based interactive approaches of MCDM using a simulation model. The model is based on idealized assumptions involving preferences of the decision maker (DM). One of the major problem inherent in the use of the simulation approach is that its naive application can result in the premature termination of the procedure at relatively poor solutions. Thus, much of the decision space is left untapped by the DM. Results show that aspiration-based approaches have greater robustness to violations of criteria's preferential independence.

Supporting real decisions: a review of OR practice in the UK

Article Abstract:

Operations research (OR) activities in the UK differ from other countries in that, as the country of origin, there are many academics who are engaged in OR as well as in-house practitioners in the public and private sectors. Consequently, practitioners have developed their social skills while OR researchers have developed new problem structuring methods to widen the scope of OR applications. In addition, OR is integrated in the undergraduate, masteral and doctoral programs of UK universities.
