FRANCE: BRITEX GROUP'S GOALS

Article Abstract:

Britex, the cooperative duck, chicken, and turkey slaughtering and cutting up group located at Lausach in the Morbihan departement, is investing FFr 85mn, including FFr 60mn in its duck production subsidiary Procanar, and FFr 25mn in its turkey and chicken subsidiary Celvia. These two investments will enable the two subsidiaries to increase their production capacity. The new Procanar production plant will be able to process 65,000 ducks a week. Britex, which made a 1999 turnover of FFr 1bn, and makes half of its sales from exports. Britex is focusing on quality in order to win international and French new market shares. A quality charter has been drawn up guaranteeing that the poultry are fed 100% vegetable feed. According to Britex ducks have considerable potential in France, since 55% of French households do not buy these products.

CHINA: SECOND SIAL CHINA TRADE FAIR

Article Abstract:

The first SIAL China food trade fair was held in Beijing in 2000, and had 13,000 visitors. The second SIAL China trade fair for promoting food products will be held at Shanghai from 10 April 2001 to 13 April 2001. It hopes to have 400 exhibitors in 2001 from thirty countries, compared with 323 exhibitors from 29 countries in 2000, and 15,000 visitors. This trade fair will be organised in partnership with Cofco, the Chinese food giant, and it aims to promote Chinese and foreign food products to restaurants, hotels and food services, and supermarkets and hypermarkets. The major food store chains are mobilising at this trade fair, following the example of Carrefour, the French retail group, which invited French producers to come and present and promote their products in Beijing.
