FRANCE: THE OBJECTIVES OF GO SPORT

Article Abstract:

Go Sport expects to open three outlets in Poland as of 1999. Today, the only non domestic-based units of the French sport good distribution specialists, are located in Belgium (six units). The group wants to put a foothold in a new country every three years, whilst opening 10 new outlets a year in France. The group, worth FFr 2.1bn in sales in 1997, has implemented a new merchandising scheme in its Parisian outlet in Les Halles, which re-opened on 3 December 1998 after the refurbishing. In addition to being clearer and more convenient, the outlet's departments come with an atmospheric music depending on the sport, while over 300 photos are displayed on a 13-m-long 'wall of images'. A news data room allows the client to read magazines and look at the dates of sport events, and two workshops are available for bicycle and roller repair.

FRANCE: SEPHORA TARGETS 17-25 YEAR OLDS

Article Abstract:

Sephora's trendy new concept store, based in the student town of Montpellier , is aimed at 17-25 year olds. The avant-garde outlet plays techno music, has a moving ceiling and visual effects on the walls. The sales team is young, and offers free make-overs. Promotions, gift vouchers and special packaging are other factors that should appeal to the young clientele. In addition to fragrance, cosmetics, make-up and beauty accessories, the outlet exclusively offers products from the Arcandie range. There was just one problem, in the days following the opening, there were so many customers that moving within the 50m[superscript two] store was difficult.
