Article Abstract:

Finnish Patria Finavicomp has signed a FIM 80mn (USD 16mn) space contract with British Matra Marconi Space. Finavicomp will produce the body and certain parts to the Rosetta space craft which will be launched towards the Wirtanen comet. The total value of the project is FIM 1.5bn. Patria Finavicomp will build two 22kg modules where the fuel tanks, solar panels and antennas as well as the 200kg backbone with equipment will be placed. The space craft will weigh 3,000kg. The test model should be ready in 1999 and the actual craft in 2001. The craft will be launched towards Wirtanen in 2003 and it will reach its destination only in 2012. According to Finavicomp, this is the first entire space shuttle structure to be built in Finland.

Huhtam ki valtaa edelleen pakkausalaa

Huhtam ki of Finland has acquired from American Huntsman Packaging Corporation a British and a French cellular plastic packaging unit. The total turnover of the units for 1997 amounted to Fmk 235mn (US$ 43mn). With the deal Polarcup of Huhtam ki group becomes the second largest cellular plastic food packaging manufacturer in Europe. Additionally, the importance of Great Britain as Polarcup's largest market and production area is emphasized. The company aims at developing a pan-European commercial packaging product group. Huhtam ki aims at the worldwide market leader position of sweets and food packaging. The company is interested i.a. in the South American packing markets and the European sweets industry.

Mets -Serla tutkii taas UK Paperin ostoa

Article Abstract:

Finnish Mets -Serla is again looking into buying the British UK Paper . However, according to Mets -Serla, they have not made an offer on the company nor negotiated the deal. A deal is not expected in near future. UK Paper has been for sale since March 1998. The New Zealand owner, Fletcher Challenge, has not been satisfied with the UK paper profits. Fletcher bought UK Paper some ten years ago. Mets -Serla made an offer on the company already then but lost the bid to Fletcher. Fletcher is estimated to want approx. FIM 2.5bn (USD 0.5bn) for UK Paper. According to news agencies, also investment company CVC is interested in UK Paper.
