Fine points of pleasant travel

Article Abstract:

Most Asian business travellers consider their journey as a vehicle for meeting other people and a means of enriching their knowledge about places, as revealed by a survey conducted by Asian Wall Street Journal on its readers. Although the region faces a number of economic problems, the number of entrepreneurs who travelled for business or pleasure purposes remained roughly the same in 1997 compared to the previous year. Survey results further suggest that safety, scheduling efficiency and the quality of services rendered by airlines and hotels pose significant bearing on consumer preference.

Pedestrian explorers discover a different path in Guangzhou

Article Abstract:

Tourists visiting Guangzhou, China, can walk through the city's narrow trails branching away from the main streets to find an almost ancient and relaxed atmosphere surrounding the area. One of the most pleasing walking tours is between Shamian Island and Liuhua Park, where shops and heritage buildings are found. Taxis are metered and numerous, however, it is advised to be wary of cab drivers who may charge excessive fares.
