Fleet tracking for Antarctic - CCAMLR tests system from USA

Article Abstract:

Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) develops a centralized vessel monitoring system (VMS) to curb the poaching of toothfish in the Southern Ocean. The VMS, which is very important for zone control, is tested in Hobart and has been installed by Absolute Communications of the USA, and the details of the same are presented.

Retiring skipper sells schooner and quota: US halibut crew gambles on future

Article Abstract:

The six crewmembers of halibut schooner "Alrita" have bought out the vessel along with its quota from its owner, Arthur Hodgins. The crew led by Dave Hedrick will be sharing the profits equally. The method of financing the purchase and management are discussed.
