Filling a gap at breakfast time

Article Abstract:

Ireland is a well-known producer and exporter of basic food products, such as beef and cheese, but many manufacturers find it difficult to introduce added-value products to their portfolios because of the competitive market conditions. Ennis Foods approached Price Waterhouse Corporate Finance in 1995 with a well-researched and innovative packaged food idea which needed funding. The plan was to provide snackers and commuters with a prepacked portion of cereal, fresh milk and a spoon. A strategy was formulated to develop the product to the launch stage, due in December 1997. Among the trade investors are a cereal maker and a dairy company.

Food for thought

Article Abstract:

The food industry is important for the economy of north west England, accounting for 30 of the largest 250 companies in the region. Multiple retailers are affected by consumer demand forlow prices, and in turn put pressure on food manufacturers. Private labels are becoming increasingly important. Opportunities in the sector include forming alliances to develop new products and penetrate new markets. There are also benefits from acquiring small firms with a capacity for innovation, and forming groups which use synergies.

Food for thought

Article Abstract:

Clients are increasingly looking for sector expertise from a financial adviser. Although the food and agribusiness sector looks quite simple at first glance, it is in fact much more complex. The sector is divided into two parts: mature, which mainly covers the US and Europe; and emerging markets which include eastern Europe. An overview of trends in the food and agribusiness sector is included.
