Ford CFO Devine to retire in September

Article Abstract:

John Devine, the fifty-five year-old chief financial officer of Ford Motor Co., announced his retirement. Mr. Devine's retirement will become effective in September 1999. Mr. Devine said he was resigning for personal reasons and because of a wish to run his own company. His retirement came unexpectedly. Ford Vice Chairman Wayne Booker will take Mr. Devine's place. However, the company is expected to seek a permanent replacement from outside the company.

UAW, DaimlerChrysler agree to a deal

Article Abstract:

DaimlerChrysler AG has reached an tentative agreement with the United Auto Workers over a new four-year labor contract. Under the terms of the agreement, workers will receive yearly wage increases of 3% and $1,350 (1,300 euros) in signing bonuses. The deal also protects the jobs of union workers in the event of a spin off of operations. Rises in pensions are also included in the agreement.
