Ford venture set to tighten control on British market

Ford Motor Co. has agreed to forge a joint venture with Jardine International Motor Holdings aimed at marketing Ford vehicles in the UK. The effort appears to be an initial move by the auto maker to boost control of its distribution network in the fractured market of Britain. The partners, which are looking to expand and may bid for Ford-car dealer Dagenham Motors Group PLC, plan development and operation of joint-venture dealerships as a model for Ford dealerships in the UK. Ford will control 49% of the joint venture, while Jardine will own 51%.

Daewoo to quit car panel tied to Ukraine venture

Article Abstract:

Daewoo Motor Co. will withdraw from a commission set up to aid the survival of the company's auto-making joint venture, AvtoZAZ-Daewoo, in the Ukraine. The joint venture produced only a third of the 72,000 cars it had planned to make in 1998, and managed to sell roughly half of them. The low sales led the company to suspend production in January, and the government set up a joint commission to end growing quarrels between Daewoo and Avtozaz officials.
